Menopause

Menopause is a natural process that happens to all women when they are in their 40s or 50s. You are considered post-menopausal after you have not gotten your period for a year, marking the end of your menstrual cycle. This means that you can no longer get pregnant, but it in no way means that you cannot have a healthy, active sex life. For some women, menopause comes as a relief, as it means that they don’t have to worry about becoming pregnant. However, there are many women who experience feelings of sadness and loss from this transition in life. There are also certain symptoms of perimenopause (the time leading up to menopause) that can make it very uncomfortable for some women.

Symptoms of perimenopause

  • Hot flashes

  • Night sweats

  • Vaginal dryness

  • Irregular menstrual cycle

  • Difficulty sleeping

  • Mood swings

  • Weight gain

  • Dry skin

  • Thinning hair

  • Breast deflation

It’s possible that you will menstruate up to your very last period, but many women experience irregular periods first. Despite this, it is still possible to get pregnant when you are perimenopausal, so if you aren’t sure if you are going through menopause or pregnant, take a test before making any assumptions.
